Seasonal changes will be discussed as winter begins to melt into spring. We will also talk about the sun being a source of light and how that has an impact on why we follow daylight savings time. We are currently wrapping up our five senses, which may also contribute to conversations around our outdoor learning and experiences. In Social Studies, we will continue to discuss our community. Students will have the opportunity to explore Assiniboine Park (watch for Permission Click), which is near our school community. Students may also mention other neighbouring landmarks and services that are near to our school. French: In French, students are working on their French reading and writing through our Monster Printing Book. Students choral read and write sentences based on what they have read. Students will continue singing songs and chanting poems to practice their oral French. They will also work on describing images and the world around them. Math: In Math, students will continue expanding on their counting skills. We are currently counting to 70 by 1, 5, and 10’s. Students have been engaging in math activities that build on their number sense and addition skills. We have been working on adding doubles (1+1, 2+2, etc.) and adding to 10. We have also been representing the equal symbol using manipulatives (example: 5 red cubes = 3 blue cubes + 2 white cubes). English: In English, students will continue working on reading strategies during guided reading periods. Students will practice these strategies using their guided reading books, which will be the same books they bring home for their home reading. We will continue to work on word families and rhyming words, as well as sound spelling and writing a couple of sentences to describe our thoughts and images that we see. Science: In science, students are exploring their 5 senses. Through hands on activities, discussions and lessons students will learn what the senses are, how they operate, and how they must be protected. Social Studies: Students will begin exploring our environment. We will be studying maps and globes to locate Manitoba, Canada (our environment). Students are hard at work. Home reading is up and running. Students should be exchanging their books once per week, when asked by an adult to do so. The boys and girls are busy working on creating their own 12 days of winter books and are excited to share them with their families. This is one of the ways we are working on our creativity by representing our ideas and recording them. We have been working on speaking French in and around the class; through book discussions, games and activities. **We will be performing at the upcoming assembly on Monday, December 16th** November dates:
